Main responsibilities of BTP
Develop policies for the telecommunications and postal sectors.Implement tasks assigned by the Minister of Telecommunications.
Prepare rules, regulations, and laws for telecommunications and postal services in Sint Maarten.
Execute responsibilities as outlined in the Telecommunications and Post Ordinance.
Represent and defend Sint Maarten’s interests in telecommunications and postal matters nationally, regionally, and internationally.
Provide general advice to the Minister and Parliament.
Offer guidance and support to government services and third parties related to telecommunications and postal issues.
Carry out additional tasks as instructed by the Minister or as required by law.

Tasks related to Telecommunications:
Issue licenses for radio frequencies, telecom equipment, and infrastructure.
Manage radio frequencies.
Issue numbers and manage Sint Maarten’s numbering plan.
Approve telecom test standards.
Inspect and examine telecom equipment and infrastructure.
Issue compliance certificates.
Issue warnings, fines, and enforce penalties for non-compliance.
Revoke telecom licenses.
Certify and authorize maritime radio communication.
Revoking of licenses.
Administer, invoice, and collect payments related to the telecom sector, including legal enforcement.

Tasks related to Post:
Issue licenses and permits according to postal regulations.
Administer, invoice, and collect payments related to the postal sector, including legal enforcement.
