Regulator Performes Site Inspection On Fort William Hill
Published on: Mar 09, 2016
In the first week of March, Head of the Technical Department of Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten, Mr. Sidney de Weever, performed a site inspection at one of the larger transmission sites on St. Maarten that is located on Fort William Hill.
The measurements that were performed form part of the ongoing spectrum management duties of BTP, and was executed in order to get valuable data on signal levels originating from the Fort William site.
The gathered data forms a crucial part of spectrum management as it allows the regulator to check the compliance with regards to spectrum allocation plans of Dutch St. Maarten as well as compliance with the tripartite spectrum coordination agreement signed by Anguilla, French St. Martin and Dutch St. Maarten.
Non-compliance can cause harmful interference on mobile as well as broadcast frequency bands, which can result in service degradation. As BTP recognizes the importance of reliable Telecom services and the need for improvements, it will continue to closely monitor mobile and broadcast spectrum on St. Maarten and take the necessary punitive measures when offences are discovered.
