On Monday June 27th 2011 the Annual Frequency Coordination Meeting with telecommunication regulators from the neighboring islands hosted by Bureau Telecommunications Post St. Maarten kicked-off. From June 27th until June 29th officials from Anguilla, St. Martin, St. Barths, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Maarten come together in Divi Beach Resort St. Maarten to discuss and agree on the coordinated use of the frequency spectrum between the islands.

Bureau of Telecommunication and Post St. Maarten is currently executing tower scans on strategically chosen transmitter sites on St. Maarten and St. Martin Mobile Networks with the aim to identify potential infringements of the frequency coordination agreement between Anguilla, France and Netherlands Antilles telecommunications authorities as it relates to intentional coverage of foreign territories by neighboring operators.

On May 17th 2011 the world celebrates “World Telecommunication & Information Society Day” (WTISD), the day on which telecommunication users and the telecommunication community worldwide will celebrate the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in France in 1865.
